Herman Cain’s flameout: Who gets the blame?

The Issue: Herman Cain’s decision last Saturday to drop out of the presidential race.

***

It is sad that Herman Cain has left the Republican primary race, given his opportunity to be the running mate of Newt Gingrich on the GOP ticket (“Herm, We Hardly Knew Ye,” Editorial, Dec. 4).

Surely a pair of candidates who are cheaters would have to appeal to a large swath of American men who can identify with them.

Now that Cain has dropped out of the race, perhaps we can reflect on how silly his candidacy was.

Cain was running for US president, not PTA president. One should have more credentials than “pizzeria owner” before opting to run.

This country is in trouble, so we need the best and the brightest in charge.

It’s astonishing that The Post’s editorial, when talking of adultery, finds only Democratic examples and ignores a present candidate and many other Republican notables.

As for Cain’s policies, such as they were, they certainly betrayed his bottomless ignorance. I always felt his candidacy was a mere PR event.

I must criticize Cain’s claim, repeated by the right, that this was somehow a Democratic plot to ensure his downfall.

Even the stupidest of Democratic operatives know that you save your ammunition for when it’s useful.

It’s getting harder and harder for candidates to ignore or hide past indiscretions.

Maybe Cain should have confessed to his “sins” early on and hoped that Republicans would embrace the repentant sinner as they have with Gingrich.

The political lynching of Cain is just another example of how the liberal media can destroy someone they don’t agree with simply by promoting allegations through their various outlets.

The left completely understands that if you tell a lie often enough, people will start to believe it.

The left doesn’t champion African-Americans, — it only champions liberal African Americans.
