Soares admits trysts

ALBANY — The George Soros-backed Albany County district attorney who has refused to prosecute Occupy Albany protesters reportedly admitted yesterday to an intimate relationship with a young staffer.

DA David Soares, 42, who is divorced, acknowledged the relationship with legal secretary Stacey Quackenbush, 26, to an upstate TV news station.

Soares’ office has prosecuted Quackenbush’s sisters and recently turned over the case against one to a special prosecutor, according to sources.

Running in 2004 to ease the state’s tough drug laws, Soares unseated incumbent Paul Clyne in a Democratic primary upset fueled by $81,500 in contributions from billionaire philanthropist Soros.

Soares angered Gov. Cuomo recently by refusing to prosecute the Occupy protesters for violating the curfew at a state park across the street from the Capitol.

Soares described his relationship with Quackenbush to news channel YNN as “committed.”

When asked by The Post for comment on the YNN report, Soares’ office issued a brief statement.

“I find it unfortunate that my personal relationships are the subject of political fodder less than 24 hours after the announcement of my political opponent,” the statement said.
