Loving daughters coping

They were the All-American girls; he was the doting soccer dad.

NYPD veteran Peter Figoski could not have been happier as he and his four bright, pretty and talented daughters gathered at their West Babylon, LI, home a few days ago to decorate their Christmas tree.

“Every year, they do the tree together, and then they go to their grandparents and decorate theirs,” said Figoski’s brother, retired NYPD cop Robert Figoski.

The festive spirit was shattered after Figoski was fatally shot Monday as he tried to stop a robbery in Brooklyn.

Figoski’s girls — Christine, 20, an education major at SUNY Oneonta; Caitlyn, 18, who is studying to be a speech pathologist at SUNY Plattsburgh and Caroline, 16, and Corrine, 14, honor-roll students at Babylon Junior-Senior HS — are “holding up the best they can,” Robert said.

“They’re four wonderful, very loving kids. Just the best,” noted another uncle, Joe Reale, who is also an NYPD cop.

The sisters are extremely close — a testament to the devotion of their divorced dad, who worked the night shift so he could be home during the day for the kids he always called “my four lovely daughters.”

“He did everything he could for his girls, making sure he got to every game, every practice — even if that meant he only got two hours’ sleep,” said Robert. “He wanted to be sure they had what they needed, and he was happy to be with them.”

Despite their accomplishments in academics and sports, they are “typical girls” who fight with each other one minute, and then make up with a group shopping trip to the mall, Robert said.

Robert recalled that, at one point, Peter Figoski was so overwhelmed by the number of women in his home that he converted the garage into a “man cave” with a private bathroom.

But the girls quickly took it over. “Within two days, he was back in the living room,” his brother said, laughing.
