DA tags ex-cop

A retired NYPD patrolman accused of returning to his younger graffiti-tagging ways found out the hard way yesterday that anything you say on Myspace can wind up being used against you in a court of law.

Prosecutor Michael Brovner confronted former cop and graffiti king Steven Weinberg about messages he sent through his Myspace account in September 2009 about drinking and tagging. Weinberg is on trial for allegedly spray-painting a highway overpass.

Brovner said the message said, “Drinking, [graffiti], the old way of doing it, piecing legally, I cry.”

A graffiti expert had previously translated the message to mean that he was drinking and doing graffiti illegally, and misses the old days.

Weinberg previously testified he hasn’t had alcohol since suffering the injury that ended his police career in 1998. Asked if he’d sent the message, Weinberg, 43, said, “I probably did send that, but it means nothing.”
