St. John’s recruit Garrett cleared

St. John’s will get a much-needed infusion of talent, size and depth with the addition of 6-6 forward Amir Garrett from Los Angeles.

Garrett signed in November of 2010, part of the Red Storm’s third-ranked recruiting class. He did not gain freshmen academic status but remained true to his commitment to St. John’s. His father, Darrow Garrett, said that his son was going to be on campus today and hoped to see him in a Red Storm jersey tonight for the game against Texas – Pan American in Carnesecca Arena.

Garrett was rated as the No.14 small forward in the nation. The Johnnies are down to six scholarship players that see real minutes, and need size and depth heading into Big East play.
