Fields gives Knicks number to Chandler

Landry Fields has a new Knicks jersey with the No. 2, having presented his old No. 6 to center Tyson Chandler when training camp began. Fields hopes the change will bring some championship luck.

Fields admitted Chandler gave him a monetary gift that was “enough to make me smile,’’ but then told The Post, “It was something I wanted to give him. He’s a champion. That’s been his number. Hopefully he’ll bring something like that to New York.’’

Besides a new number, Fields, who returns as the Knicks starting shooting guard, also is hoping to have a new mindset from last April, when he ended his otherwise superb rookie season with a thud against the Celtics.

In the four-game playoff sweep to Boston, Fields scored a total of seven points and shot 3 of 15. He saw Celtics green in his nightmares. His dropoff was blamed on everything from being spooked by the Carmelo Antony trade to writing a daily playoff diary for The Post.

“I’m coming in with better focus than at that stage of my season last year,’’ Fields said. “I’m trying to be reactionary and less cerebral.’’

It is unclear what jersey superfan Spike Lee will wear for today’s season opener against the Celtics. Last year, he donned a Fields No. 6 jersey, but The Post has reported he had a hand in recruiting Chandler to New York. Will Lee wear the new No. 6 today? Lee did not return an email yesterday.

“I don’t know, I can’t speak for Spike,’’ Fields said. “He’s going to do what Spike Lee does: Be awesome every day.”

* Backup point guard Mike Bibby is listed as questionable with back spasms after sitting out most of practice. Bibby injured his back getting hit by Nets’ Stephen Graham on a pick Wednesday and missed the second half.

“Hopefully it gets better by [today], and we’ll talk about it,’’ Bibby said. “There’s diehard fans out here. It would not do them any justice to go out there and not give them 100 percent.’’

Bibby’s absence would likely increase the minutes for rookie Iman Shumpert in his NBA debut.

* Coach Mike D’Antoni said the club talked internally about signing waived swingman Mickael Pietrus, but the Celtics signed him yesterday. He will not play in today’s game. … Amar’e Stoudemire is providing a free breakfast for MSG employees working on Christmas. … Despite missing the two preseason games with a groin injury, small forward Billy Walker is expected to play.
