Courtney Love asks judge to toss West Village landlord’s eviction bid

I am not a deadbeat, Courtney Love is insisting in asking a Manhattan Housing Court judge to scrap a landlord’s bid to have the rocker evicted from her West 10th St. apartment.

Love’s lawyer — though not Love herself — came to court today and filed a motion requesting the matter be dropped entirely, arguing that his client is caught up on her rent and actually made improvements to the property during her 10-month residency at $27,000 a month.

The owner, Donna Lyon, is claiming that Love is behind in rent and needs to undo her unauthorized renovations to the Steven Gambrel-designed interior.

But Love is paid up through Jan. 15, said her lawyer, Eric Sherman. And her renovations have improved the property, he said.

“The landlord had improperly sought three months rent at one time — including for the month of January,” Sherman told reporters after today’s brief proceeding. “She paid the rent due Nov. 15, and again on Dec. 15, and she will pay again on Jan. 15,” he said.

As for the renovations, “She’ll tell you herself the place is in better shape now than when she moved in,” he said.

Sherman side-stepped the question of whether he believed the landlord is merely trying to get her out of the building.

“You can let the landlord’s complaint speak for itself and come to your own conclusions,” he said.

Lyon’s side has until Jan. 13 to respond to Love’s request that the eviction suit be dropped.
