Farmar may be out of Nets rotation

Nets coach Avery Johnson said before last night’s game against the Knicks he was planning on treating it like a regular-season affair.

If so, don’t expect to see much of Jordan Farmar on Monday night. The backup point guard didn’t get off the bench during last night’s game, with the Nets saying that it was strictly a coach’s decision not to play him.

Instead, Johnson gave any minutes that normally may have gone Farmar’s way to Sundiata Gaines, who finished with three points and four assists in 24:07.

* After signing a two-year deal with the Nets last week, Shawne Williams practiced Friday, but he has sat out ever since with a bad case of the flu. He wasn’t with the team last night after going to the doctor Tuesday, but Johnson was hoping to see him back at today’s practice.

With Williams out of the lineup, Damion James has been given a chance to lock himself in as the Nets’ starting small forward. He didn’t hurt his chances with his play last night, going 5-for-7 from the field and finishing with 13 points and nine rebounds.

In addition to Williams, the Nets were also without rookie power forward Jordan Williams, as he continues to recover from a bout of dehydration last week.
