NY-bound flight forced to return to Paris after takeoff

PARIS — An Air France flight from Paris to New York was forced to return to the airport shortly after takeoff for precautionary checks after pilots noticed “a minor problem,” Le Parisien newspaper reported Monday.

The Airbus A330 left Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport Sunday evening bound for New York, but was forced to turn back after pilots suspected something may be wrong.

The airline said there was a “minor problem,” but did not give further details. The plane took off again “very quickly” with all the passengers on board, AFP quoted a spokesman as saying.

According to the airport’s website, the plane took off for the second time shortly before midnight local time, meaning a delay of four hours.

Air France was involved in one of the worst aviation disasters in recent years, when one of its jets crashed into the Atlantic Ocean during a June 2009 night flight to Paris from Rio de Janeiro, killing all 228 people aboard.
