Giants-Cowboys tix reaching $7,000

You’ll need to strike oil to afford a seat at the Giants-Dallas game on Sunday night.

The do-or-die game against the Cowboys is one of the NFL’s hottest tickets of 2011, with an average price that’s nearing a record for the season.

“It’s [Cowboys-Giants], a rivalry game. It’s always one of the Giants’ top sellers anyway — and now it has even more significance,” said Chris Matcovich, director of data for Ticket Buying Intelligence.

The average asking price for the 8:30 p.m. clash was $484.98 last night — and could soon surpass the season-high $492.66 generated by the 49ers-Steelers game on Monday, Dec. 19.

“It’s a very big game, more than just on the field. Everyone is talking about this game,” Matcovich said.

Sunday’s winner will go to the playoffs, while the loser goes home.

The game was set for 1 p.m., but it was switched to prime time to score a national audience on NBC.

Matcovich said that night games normally drive down prices, “but this is a virtual playoff game.”

The priciest ticket is a suite going for $25,000 — which can fit 30 fans at an average of $800 apiece.

The highest-priced seat outside is $7,000 for a 50-yard line perch in Section 113.

By last night, about 7,800 tickets to Sunday’s game had been purchased through StubHub. The reselling giant expects to sell 8,000 tickets by kickoff.

That beats the previous StubHub high for a Giants regular-season game, when about 7,300 tickets were sold for the Jints-Boys in 2009.

“Given that this is a do-or-die game, it’s not surprising it’s the top seller of the week,” said StubHub spokeswoman Joellen Ferrer.

“It’s selling like a playoff game.”
