Thug gets 60 days jail in gay-bias beating at historic Stonewall bar

A teen thug who’d helped in a violent, gay-bias robbery at the Stonewall bar — famed as a landmark in the gay rights movement — was sentenced to 60 days jail and five years probation today.

Christopher Orlando, 18, had helped tackle patron Benjamin Carver, 35, during the October, 2010 robbery in the bar’s bathroom. Orlando and a second man, Matthew Francis, 22, both of Staten Island, shouted gay slurs at their victim during the attack, prosecutors charged.

Francis, accused of playing the more violent role in the beat down, was sentenced in September to two years prison. Orlando — called “the minor participant” today by his lawyer, John Rapawy — will have his record sealed if he stays out of trouble until his probation period ends.
