Swastikas scrawled across Midtown storefronts

A swath of hate was cut across several Midtown businesses in the form of swastikas scrawled across their windows, police sources said yesterday.

The NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force is probing the rash of Nazi symbols drawn with a white grease pen on four separate stores along Sixth Avenue near Bryant Park, the sources said.

The vandalism was discovered at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday when a security guard spotted a 12-by-12-inch swastika drawn on the front window of the Penguin clothing store at 1077 Sixth Ave., sources said.

The guard quickly told the store manager, and the two went outside to assess the damage, sources said.

What they found was even more shocking — four additional swastikas drawn with the same pen on the windows of a nearby office building, bookstore and supply store, sources said.

Police dusted for prints on the windows but couldn’t find any.

Cops were reviewing video recovered from a nearby NYPD Argus camera to see if it had captured the perp’s image.
