Neil deGrasse Tyson rips the science of ‘Gravity’

The critics raved and audiences shelled out more than $55 million to see it, but The Hayden Planetarium’s top astrophysicist is not a fan of the new sci-fi hit “Gravity.”

Neil deGrasse Tyson gave the blockbuster Sandra Bullock and George Clooney flick two big thumbs down in a hilariously scathing Twitter rant Sunday night.

“The film #Gravity should be renamed “Zero Gravity,” he tweeted about the outer-space saga, in which medical engineer Ryan Stone, played by Bullock, and astronaut Matt Kowalski, played by Clooney, struggle to survive after a mishap leaves them adrift in space.

Tyson acknowledges in one of 20 tweets about the movie that “The film #Gravity depicts a scenario of catastrophic satellite destruction that can actually happen.”

But he then starts riffing about everything that’s wrong with the thriller, which got rave reviews from critics nationwide.

“Mysteries of #Gravity: Why Bullock, a medical Doctor, is servicing the Hubble Space Telescope,” he wrote.

“Mysteries of #Gravity: When Clooney releases Bullock’s tether, he drifts away. In zero-G a single tug brings them together,” he added minutes later, followed by these gems:

Tyson then concedes that despite its flaws, he liked the movie.

“My Tweets hardly ever convey opinion. Mostly perspectives on the world. But if you must know, I enjoyed #Gravity very much,” he wrote, followed by an apology of sorts for the diatribe.

“That was three-weeks-worth of Tweets in one evening. Sorry to overload your Twitter streams. Good night universe,” he concluded.
