Putting bite on bikers

Dangerous cyclists are getting their comeuppance on the Upper East Side.

Police in the neighborhood’s 19th Precinct, the epicenter of the city’s crackdown on reckless riders, wrote 6,600 summonses against them in 2011.

The tally includes 1,328 citations for riding on the sidewalk, 1,101 for running red lights and 506 for riding the wrong way on a one-way street. Many of the bicyclists were food deliverymen.

Crazy cyclists have been a complaint at almost every 19th Precinct community council meeting.

“Sometimes, they ride all over the street without a care for anyone,” said Zalika Evanson, 19, a Queens resident who works in the neighborhood.
