A man was struck and killed by a Brooklyn-bound L train in Manhattan early this morning, police said.
Cops said the subway smashed into the 22-year-old when he was standing on the tracks between the Union Square and Third Avenue subway stops about 8:25 a.m. It was unclear why he was on the tracks. He was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
About two hundred straphangers evacuated the train, walking along a platform in the tunnel before they exited at Third Avenue.
Normal L train service has not been restored yet, and the line is experiencing delays during the police investigation, according to an MTA spokesperson.
No criminality is initially suspected.
