Counterpunch against winter delays

As mild a winter as it’s been in New York, it’s finally getting cold enough for snow. You shouldn’t be surprised if you wake up one weekday to discover that there’s enough powder on the ground to make you late for work.

Depending on how charitable your boss is, he may or may not accept “I didn’t know it was going to snow” as an excuse. Give yourself enough time to deal with any surprise overnight snow or frost and still show up to work on time with Winter Wake-Up.

The free app for iPhone and Android is an alarm clock that automatically wakes you up earlier if there’s inclement weather overnight. Just set your normal wake-up time in the app. Then select how many minutes earlier the app should wake you if it snows overnight or if there’s frost in the morning. This way, you should have enough time to dig your car out from the snow or make alternate travel arrangements and still show up at the office when you’re supposed to.

Overnight, the app collects weather information based on your current location and decides whether it’s necessary to wake you up earlier. When the alarm goes off, the app tells you what wintry developments took place overnight.
