Schottenheimer hired as Rams offensive coordinator

The Rams have hired former Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer to the same position, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

The report cited NFL sources as saying Schottenheimer beat out former Raiders head coach Hue Jackson for the position. There was no official announcement made by the team.

Schottenheimer, 38, split with the Jets earlier this month after spending six seasons with the team. The Jets have said the decision was mutual, and Schottenheimer sought a fresh start.

He joins new Rams head coach Jeff Fisher in trying to turn around a team that went 2-14 last year. Schottenheimer goes from tutoring one young quarterback, Mark Sanchez, to another, Rams signal-caller Sam Bradford.

The Jets hired Tony Sparano to replace Schottenheimer.

Schottenheimer is the second coordinator to join Fisher’s staff. Gregg Williams, the Saints defensive coordinator the past three seasons, joined the Rams in the same position.

The Rams still are searching for a general manager to replace Billy Devaney, who was 10-38 in three seasons in St. Louis.

A league source told ESPN.com the Rams will interview Jets vice president of college scouting Joey Clinkscales for their general manager vacancy this week.
