CHSAA/Private boys basketball roundup: Collegiate knocks off Fieldston, remains tied atop Ivy’s with Poly Prep

Collegiate exacted revenge against Fieldston, which handed the Dutchmen its first league loss 12 days ago – and as a result, they remain tied atop the league with rival Poly Prep.

MIT-bound point guard Ryan Frankel scored 17 points and Willie Gwathmey and Connor Huff each added 16 for Collegiate (13-2, 6-1) in the 64-56 win on the Upper West Side. The Dutchmen will face Trinity Wednesday at 4 p.m. while Fieldston (13-3, 7-2) hosts Hackley Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

NYCAL

Columbia Prep 58, Browning 23: Brian Lissak scored 18 points and reached the 1,000-point mark for his career and Don Peebles added 11 points for Columbia Prep (14-3, 7-0), which clinched the NYCAL regular-season title. The Lions meet St. Agnes Feb. 6 at 6 p.m. while Browning takes on Martin Luther Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Calhoun 62, Loyola 55: Zuri Pavlin had 21 points, 11 rebounds, seven blocks, six assists and four steals, Max Tabatsky had 21 points and five assists and Tim Gruber followed with 10 points for Calhoun (8-9, 3-3). It was 14-of-17 from the free-throw line and faces Brooklyn Friends in a non-league game Thursday at St. Francis College at 4:15 p.m. Loyola visits the Trevor Day School Feb. 6 at 6 p.m.

ISAL

York Prep 75, BWL 61: Luke Cohen scored 22 points, Elie Mamiye added 20 and Jeremy Levin had 19 for York Prep, which was without Manhattan College-bound star Shane Richards. York (9-3, 7-1) can clinch the ISAL regular season crown Tuesday against Lycee Francais at 5:30 p.m.

ACIS

Berkeley Carroll 56, Brooklyn Friends 31: Shane Pearley had 10 points and six rebounds, Ian Miller and freshman Richie Palacios each scored 10 points, Dondre Benson grabbed 10 rebounds and Cole Kitchen and Joe Longo had five rebounds and five assists apiece for Berkeley Carroll (12-5, 7-2). The Lions visit Packer Thursday at 4 p.m. Brooklyn Friends meets St. Ann’s Wednesday at 5:15 p.m.

Staten Island Academy 51, Dwight 30: Rohit Oday scored 20 points and Michael Langford had 11 for Staten Island Academy (10-5, 7-4), which hosts Packer Collegiate Wednesday at 4 p.m.

SIHSL

Moore Catholic 84, Tottenville 69: John Baggs scored 22 points and Mark Fiorello had 16 points to lead Moore (18-4). Scott Schaefer and Jordan Sanders each had 11 points. Michael Michail had 17 points, Kevin Blohm had 16 points and Chris Febbraro had 12 points for Tottenville (11-10).

St. Joseph by the Sea 65, Petrides 63: Mike Kelly had 16 points, Justin Henderson had 12 points and Stephen Matrangolo added 11 points for Sea (6-13). Elijah Bryant had 26 points and Trevor McGhie had 21 points for Petrides (4-18).

NON-LEAGUE

Riverdale 55, Lawrence Woodmere Academy 46: Josh Wetzler scored 12 points, Kyle Friedman had 11 and Henry Stevens 10 for Riverdale (8-7), which has won two straight and hosts co-Ivy Prep League leader Poly Prep Wednesday at 4:15 p.m.
