Night owls’ MTA map

The city that never sleeps finally has a late-night subway map.

MTA officials yesterday released a special, limited-run subway map showing only late-night service, eliminating the four lines that don’t run in the wee hours — the B, C, Z and the 42nd Street Shuttle.

It also shows five lines that have substantially shorter routes — the 3, 5, M, Q and R trains — during late-night service, which typically runs from midnight to 6 a.m.

There are also six lines that make additional stops not made during the day.

Those lines are the 2, 4 and A — which run local in Manhattan — as well as the D, E and N.

The first-of-its-kind map — the same size as the old standby but with a gray background — will be available at the Transit Museum in Brooklyn and at the Transit Museum Annex at Grand Central.

“This companion night map will, for the first time, depict service for a particular portion of the day,” said MTA Chairman Joseph Lhota.

It’s being distributed in a limited run, with only 25,000 copies. Once supply runs out, the MTA will likely distribute more during the next printing of the traditional subway map.
