Gov & Mike: We’ll throw the book at bums yet

This is what they’re talking about!

Gov. Cuomo and Mayor Bloomberg yesterday blasted the absurdly difficult process of firing boozed-up and law-breaking teachers — saying it’s a critical challenge for the entire school system.

But both lawmakers made a promise: We’re working on it.

Their criticism came in response to The Post’s exposé of how the city couldn’t boot 70 percent of educators charged with misconduct in 2011 — even for such outrageous offenses as drinking in the classroom or slapping a student in the face.

“It takes years and years to remove a teacher,” Bloomberg said. “And in the cases [The Post] cited . . . there’s no argument about what the facts were.”

Cuomo (left) called the issue “breathtaking.”

“This is another problem that has gone on for a very long period of time and it’s breathtaking when you hear it, and you can’t believe it’s gone on as long as it has,” he said.
