The State of DisUnion: Obama’s prime-time hooey

The Issue: Pres. Obama’s State of the Union Address Tuesday night, and his own record as president.

I thought I saw President Obama’s nose grow so much during his State of the Union Address that it was coming through my television (“O’s Sound and Fury,” Editorial, Jan. 25).

Americans know what he’s saying is untrue. What Obama has done is grow the deficit $5 trillion in three years.

The Democratic Party was hijacked years ago, and Obama must go.

After watching Obama blame everyone but himself with a straight face, I believe he is the polar opposite of Ronald Reagan.

He’s going to have a stellar career as an actor after he’s done with politics in November.

How ironic that Apple reports record sales and profits after the State of the Union speech, with Steve Jobs’ widow in attendance.

The president called for manufacturing jobs to return to the United States in light of the fact that Apple manufactures its products in China.

I guess it’s OK to be a robber baron and an exploiter of workers, as long as you’re a Democrat.

Obama should have said the following: “Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a slight electrical problem. Please continue enjoying your cruise.”

Obama spoke about the winding down of military action in Afghanistan.

I admire his creativity when he suggested using half the money saved to pay down our national debt and half to pay for infrastructure repairs. But since our Afghan adventures are paid for by money borrowed from other countries, how does repaying half of it reduce our debt?

Is Obama expecting a check to be handed to him? This idea of war savings’ being some kind of dividend check to be spent on goodies is utter nonsense.

I liken Obama’s address to the character Dennis Hopper played in the movie “Waterworld.” He was the captain of a rag-tag group on an old oil tanker searching for land in a world that literally flipped upside-down, flooding the Earth.

Like Obama, he gave great speeches to the masses, full of hope and lies, telling his people that he knew that land was not far off.

After watching how sincere his speech was, I think Obama believes what he is saying, even though what he is saying is untrue.

We are headed for a world where no one will be able to keep his head above water.
