Unruly crowd forces officials to end South Shore-Lincoln game early

Tuesday’s South Shore-Lincoln clash in Canarsie was halted with 4:01 remaining in the fourth quarter and Lincoln leading 49-41 because of a fight in the crowd that spilled onto the court, The Post has learned.

Fans behind each team’s bench got into it and the game’s officials, John Nies and Daryl Pearson, suspended the game when order couldn’t be restored, sources said. There were, according to sources, no players involved in any kind of altercation.

The officials discussed emptying the stands and restarting the game with South Shore principal Marcel Deans and athletic director Robert Andruskiewicz, the sources said, but the scene only worsened – there were up to 12 people in the supposed scrum – forcing the officials to suspend play.

It is unclear if Lincoln will be awarded the win, it will be a suspended game or even be restarted. Rule 13.1.4 of on the PSAL website states: “The home team must provide a safe environment for all players and spectators.” Rule 13.3 states: “Violation of this rule can result in penalties to be determined by the PSAL.”

“I wanted to keep playing the game, but I was told the referees wanted a few people to be removed and it wasn’t done,” Lincoln coach Dwayne (Tiny) Morton. “The crowd was out of control and one of the referees asked [South Shore coach] Mike [Beckles] to control the crowd. I don’t think it was done in a timely manner.”

Neither Beckles and PSAL Brooklyn boys basketball commissioner Ted Gustus didn’t return calls seeking content.

Before the game was stopped, Isaiah Whitehead led Lincoln with 18 points and Shaquille Davis had 10. Terrence Samuel had eight points for South Shore. Lincoln won the first meeting, 58-42, Dec. 10 in Coney Island.
