Burress predicts Giants win over Patriots

INDIANAPOLIS — Plaxico Burress once again is picking the Giants to win the Super Bowl.

And sounds very much like he misses his old quarterback and old team.

“I think they’re gonna go out and play Giant football,” Burress told The Post. “One thing about it, they’re gonna be well-coached, they’re gonna be ready for whatever the Patriots throw at them, and I think Coach Belichick is gonna be ready also.

“It’s gonna be a chess match, it’s gonna be a great game. I wouldn’t expect anything less than for it to come down in the last couple of minutes with both quarterbacks to have the ball in their hand to go down and win it.”

Who will win it?

“I gotta go with my boys, man,” Burress said. “The Patriots broke my heart a few times in a couple of AFC championships. I still wear those scars a little bit when I was playing in Pittsburgh. I’ve been playing against Tom Brady ever since he was in Michigan. He’s been great ever since then.

“I know my boys, and I know how they get when it comes to crunch time. The guys that I am close with, they’re gonna pin their ears back and get after it.”

Asked last night if he was rooting for Eli Manning, Burress told The Post: “I’m not rootin’ against him! I think he’s playing lights out, and he’s definitely come of age.

“When you sit down and discuss who are some of the best quarterbacks in this league, you have to throw his name in there, there’s no doubt about it. He’s playing great. He’s throwing the ball with confidence, the guys out there are making plays for him, and that’s all you can ask for as a quarterback.”

Burress has spoken with old pals Brandon Jacobs, Osi Umenyiora and Ahmad Bradshaw.

“They deserve it. I”m happy for my guys and I’m definitely pulling for them and I’m looking for ’em to bring it home,” Burress said.

No Deja Blue for him. “When you’re on the inside, it’s something totally different,” Burress said. “When you’re on the outside looking in, you’re a fan. … I think it’s gonna be a helluva game.”

He smiled at the recollection of his game-winning touchdown catch in Super Bowl XLII.

“It’s something that’s a part of me, and a part of my family and the Giants organization,” Burress said. “Growing up as a child, as a kid, it’s something you always dream about. … And to do it in a fashion that we did it, it’s something that everyone dreams of.”

Burress recalled being shocked that the Pats blitzed and single-covered him with Ellis Hobbs.

“When the ball was in the air, I was just saying to myself, ‘If I drop this ball, I’m never gonna be able to walk in New York city again,’ ” he said and laughed.

His advice to the Giants? “Enjoy the moment,” Burress said.

Nothing like freedom for No. 17.

“It’s just about, in the words of the great John Wooden, ‘Make every day your masterpiece,’ and that’s what I’m trying to do.”
