Terror on film at the NYPD

The Issue: ‘The Third Jihad,’ a film about the radical Islamist threat that was shown to some NYPD officers.

As a retired Port Authority police officer, who was a rescue and recovery worker at both World Trade Center attacks, I commend Commissioner Ray Kelly for having the strength to say something that’s offensive to some and truth to others (“Of Films and Fear,” M. Zuhdi Jasser, PostOpinion, Jan. 30).

If we’re asked to understand the Muslim community’s perspective, it should be asked to understand the perspective of the NYPD.

It’s vile to see the press defend Kelly.

Remember when Kelly inaccurately bragged that his NYPD could shoot down terrorist planes, or when he blocked the press from witnessing the OWS eviction?

It’s scandalous that Kelly was made to apologize for utilizing “The Third Jihad” as a “training film.”

I’m familiar with the film and the diligence of its producers.

He apologized as a result of communal agitation, not because there were any falsehoods in the film.

This is a national and international pattern, and few brave Muslims speak out against Islamists.

It’s a pattern on academic campuses as well, with false cries of Islamophobia and demonstrations.

If people are afraid to speak the truth, they should be silent, so the rest of us can be protected by rational public servants like Kelly.
