‘God was kind’

Call him Supercop, or call him plain lucky — but Officer Kevin Brennan is alive, and that’s something to be thankful for.

The 29-year-old Brennan, a six-year veteran of the force with a 6-week-old daughter at home, was shot in the head Tuesday night while responding to a shots-fired call at a Brooklyn housing project.

“He is one lucky young man,” said Police Commissioner Ray Kelly later that night, as he held aloft the .38-caliber bullet plucked from Brennan’s skull during surgery at Bellevue Hospital.

Brennan and two fellow officers chased a suspect into the Bushwick Houses when the perp opened fire. The good news: The shooter was arrested shortly after, cops say.

But Brennan is the second officer shot point-blank in the head in just two months. In December, Officer Peter Figoski was killed in the line of duty in Brooklyn.

“God, in this case, was kind,” Mayor Bloomberg said Tuesday at Bellevue.

Indeed.
