25M fans placing their bets

It’s a sure bet that 25 million Americans will be gambling on the Super Bowl, according to a new survey.

The Poll Position national survey asked, “Will you bet money on the Super Bowl?” and 11 percent of respondents said they’ll have cash on the line, which extrapolates to 25 million nationwide.

The Patriots are 3-point favorites over the Giants.

Many of the early Super Bowl lines listed the Pats as 3 1/2-point favorites, so the drop to 3 indicates that many bettors have been backing Big Blue.

“A move from 3 1/2 to 3 in a game like this, which is being scrutinized twice as long and 100 times as much as any regular-season game, shows the nation trending toward the Giants,” said betting guru Steve Budin, founder of gambling Web site SportsInfo.com.

The Poll Position survey found that the age group the most likely to gamble on the game is 18- to 29-year-olds, with 19 percent of those young adults planning to have action on Sunday’s contest.

From a political perspective, 16 percent of Democrats and 12 percent of Republicans said they’re betting on the game.
