Another NYPD cop shot: When will judges wake up?

The Issue: The alleged shooter of Police Officer Kevin Brennan and his history of criminal behavior.

“‘God Was Kind’” (Editorial, Feb. 2) in the case of Police Officer Kevin Brennan’s surviving a gunshot to his head, says Mayor Bloomberg.

Maybe so, but what was Luis Ortiz doing out on the streets to begin with?

Maybe God could use a little help from the liberal judicial system. Ortiz should have been put away for good 10 crimes ago.

Brennan’s young bride and 6-week-old baby could easily have been widowed and fatherless, just because some judges let this slug run free.

Officer Peter Figoski was killed. It wasn’t because God wasn’t kind; it was because the liberal justice system is bad.

Three police officers have been shot in the last few months, and one was murdered — all by criminals who never should have been allowed out of prison.

There’s something seriously wrong with the courts. Salt and transfats won’t kill us, but the lack of common sense will.

Can we charge each judge, especially the last one, as an accessory in the shooting of Brennan?

This poor, misunderstood victim of society has 14 arrests at the tender age of 21, including for drugs, assault and armed robbery. Why was he free to shoot Brennan?

Six weeks after his most recent arrest, on Dec. 15, he was stalking the streets, allegedly attempting to murder an officer and laughing about it.

Every time a guy like Luis Ortiz shoots someone and is paraded in front of cameras, making a scene and gaining his street cred, he is doing nothing more than making a joke of New York City judges who refuse to keep thugs with long rap sheets where they belong.
