CNN drops again

The bad news doesn’t stop for CNN.

Coming off its worst ratings month in prime time in 20 years last May, CNN is reporting its lowest-rated quarter in 21 years.

The original all-news network has been squeezed hard in recent years by Fox News Channel and MSNBC, which lean hard on political opinion shows in primetime. CNN has favored general news shows, which, in a Presidential election year, are falling flat.

Wolf Blitzer’s “The Situation Room” was down 26 percent in total viewers from last year.

Piers Morgan, who replaced Larry King in January 2011, was down 29 percent and Anderson Cooper’s 8 p.m. show was off 19 percent.
