Cuomo ex-wife Kerry Kennedy busted for driving on drugs: report

Kerry Kennedy, ex-wife of Gov. Andrew Cuomo, was arrested this morning for allegedly driving while impaired by drugs after she struck a tractor-trailer on Interstate 684 in Westchester County and fled the scene, according to a new report.

The Journal News said Kennedy, daughter of Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, allegedly struck the big rig at 8 a.m. near Exit 4, and then got off the interstate at Exit 3 with a flat tire. New Castle police found her behind the wheel of her disabled Lexus RS 350 and later charged her with driving under the influence of drugs, state police told the paper.

According to the paper, state police said Kennedy was charged after an investigation led them to believe she was driving under the influence of drugs.

But Kennedy’s spokesman, Ken Sunshine, told the Associated Press she voluntarily took breathalyzer, blood and urine tests that showed no drugs or alcohol in her system. Sunshine says the charges were filed before the test results were available.

Kerry Kennedy, 52, had three daughters with Cuomo before their 13-year marriage imploded in 2003, after Cuomo learned she was having an extramarital affair, The Post reported. The divorce wasn’t finalized until 2005.

Kerry Kennedy was ticketed and later released, The Journal News said.

She is the seventh of the 11 children of Robert F. Kennedy, and is president of the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights, a non-profit.

Kerry Kennedy’s arrest comes less than two months after her sister-in-law Mary Kennedy, who Kerry Kennedy described as her “best, best friend,” killed herself on May 16 at her Bedford estate.

Mary Kennedy, married to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., had long battled alcohol problems. RFK Jr. filed to divorce her in 2010, but the divorce had not been finalized at the time of her death.
