“Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters” cooked up $19 million to top the box office in its debut weekend.
The R-rated action film update on the classic fairy tale “Hansel & Gretel” features Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton as grown-up renditions of the title characters battling witches with crossbows.
Other films opening over the weekend didn’t fare as well. The crime thriller “Parker” debuted in fifth place with $7 million, while the ensemble comedy “Movie 43,” which Post critic Lou Lumenick called the worst movie he’d ever seen, opened in seventh, with $5 million.
