Hudson plane-crash duo rescued

A small plane plunged into the Hudson River near Yonkers last night — and two occupants wearing life jackets and floating in the icy water were rescued by a group of quick-thinking cops, according to the FAA and local police.

The single-engine Piper Cherokee aircraft hit the river about 10 miles south of the Tappan Zee Bridge at 5:20 p.m.

A man, 43, and a woman, 39, were spotted by police floating down the river and calling for help. Their names were not released.

A group of off-duty and on-duty Yonkers cops boarded a pilot boat off the JFK Marina Launch to rescue the duo at 5:47 p.m., said Assistant Chief Thomas Fitzpatrick of the Yonkers Fire Department.

Both passengers suffered hypothermia.

The downed plane is registered to Dominick Lipariti of Manalapan, NJ.

When reached at home, Lipariti said he sold the plane on Thursday and transferred the paperwork. He would not identify the new owners.
