Joe Blew it — not Mo

* Mariano Rivera did not blow three saves in a row last week. I blame two of the blown saves on Yankees manager Joe Girardi. How do you not pitch around the Tigers’ Miguel Cabrera, the first Triple Crown winner in MLB in ages? There was a base to put him on and that’s just what the Yankees should have done.

Bombers are back

* With the return of Alex Rodriguez and Curtis Granderson and the trade for Alfonso Soriano, the Yankees have the talent to be the best team in the AL. Add a pitcher and they could be the best team in baseball. This could get interesting.

Just Hughes-less

* Isn’t it time for the Yankees to say ‘No more’ to Phil Hughes? They get a streak going and then hit the Hughes speed bump. I’m sure they could take one of the youngsters from the bullpen and plug him in Hughes’ place. I’m one fan not giving up hope for a playoff spot, but let’s be real, it’s not going to happen if Hughes continues his losing ways.

Rethinking Robbie

* It is time for the Yankees to cut ties with Robinson Cano. Yes, he is an extremely talented player, smooth in the field, and with a lethal bat. The problem is, allocating the finances to re-sign him will leave many holes on this team. The Yankees are best served investing the money in two or three other positions. Let another team overpay for Cano, as the Yankees are doing with CC Sabathia and Mark Teixeira. By 2016, Cano will be a shadow of his former self. And let’s not forget, even in his prime, Cano was a lazy player who did not always hustle.
