Banksy splashes new work on Hustler Club

Banksy bounced back Thursday, splashing his latest graffiti on the side of a West Side jiggle joint.

The British street artist struck a roll-down security gate covering the main entrance to Larry Flynt’s Hustler Club after drawing a blank on Wednesday, when he said that “police activity” interrupted his month-long New York City residency.

The newest work shows a lovelorn loser slouched in a corner, clutching a fast-fading bouquet of flowers with their red petals fluttering to the ground.

“Waiting in vain…at the door of the club,” say the captions under two pictures of the piece on Banksy’s Web site.

Hundreds of fans flocked to the scene in Hell’s Kitchen, where several beefy security workers stood guard to keep vandals from defacing the work — as they have most of the previous installments in Banksy’s “Better Out Than In” project.

“All I know is he is a famous artist. I was told to protect it,” said Jesse Wright, 53.

“Not even a pen mark is allowed to go on it. I have to make sure that people only have cameras. No paint.”

Claudia Suarez, 32, of East Elmhurst, Queens, said she was skipping school to see the life-size stencil art.

“I’m a fan of Banksy…I’ve been looking at his Web site every day,” she said.

“I heard about this in the middle of my court-reporting class, about 10:24 and I was out of there by 10:26.”

Hustler Club marketing director Steve Karel said: “We’re honored that Banksy chose the Larry Flynt’s Hustler Club New York to share his art.”

Karel also said that “while we’d love to leave the work in place, it’s required we lift the gate when we open for business.”

“So after the public has the day to enjoy it, we will remove the door to keep it safe from vandals until we determine where it can be displayed in the future — hopefully inside of the club.”
