LIU tops St. Francis in battle of Brooklyn

Jamal Olasewere scored 20 points and made a pair of crucial plays as LIU Brooklyn fended off St. Francis of Brooklyn 83-75 at Barclays Center, sweeping the season series.

Trailing by one with 1:23 remaining, Olasewere took a feed from Jason Brickman and converted on a spin move in the paint to push the Blackbirds (13-11, 8-4 Northeast Conference) ahead for good. He also made a bank shot for an 80-75 lead with 28 seconds left.

The Terriers (9-14, 5-7) missed 3-point attempts on their next two trips while the Blackbirds hit 3 of 4 free throws.

The Blackbirds have won eight of nine since a six-game losing streak, including 78-68 over St. Francis on Jan. 24. Akeem Johnson’s season-high 22 points led the Terriers.
