Dad who violently shook newborn daughter gets 20 years

A Queens dad who admitted to violently shaking his 16-day-old daughter because he was “tried and frustrated” from work was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Isrrael Garcia, 28, pled guilty to first-degree assault in November after his infant daughter, Maria Gordillo was brought to an emergency room unresponsive on May 28.

Garcia admitted that he came home from work “tired and frustrated”, heard the baby crying, forcefully grabbed and squeezed baby and repeatedly shook her, prosecutors said.

Doctors later determined that baby Maria suffered injuries that resulted from Shaken Baby Syndrome.

Maria, who was born on May 12, suffered severe brain and eye injuries, multiple rib fractures and various bruises to her left foot and back — she remains on life support.

Garcia was originally supposed to receive 14 years in prison, but after he told the probation officials that he “didn’t do anything” and the baby was “injured while playing” a Queens judge yesterday increased his sentence.
