Staffer busted in 50G ‘rip-off’

A staffer in Comptroller John Liu’s public-affairs unit was busted yesterday for helping steal $50,000 in taxpayer funds intended for the elderly, state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said.

Veda Jamoona, 28, allegedly bilked the money from the Department for the Aging from 2007 to 2010 by submitting inflated invoices for elderly meals when she helped run the Queens-based United Hindu Cultural Center with her co-defendant mother, Chan Jamoona, 66.

Liu’s office hired Veda after the probe of her activities was under way, insiders said.
