Good Lord!
History’s “The Bible” snared more than 13 million viewers Sunday night — the year’s best numbers for a cable entertainment series.
The Mark Burnett/Roma Downey-produced miniseries, which airs over the next three Sundays — culminating on Easter — added another 1.7 million viewers in a subsequent repeat.
Despite lukewarm reviews, “The Bible” also drove record traffic to history.com — and trended No. 1 on Twitter.
The series stars Downey as Mother Mary and Portuguese actor Diogo Morgado as Jesus.
“This #1 series is a tribute to all those who have helped us to spread the Word,” Burnett and Downey said in a statement.
“Ultimately ‘The Bible’ will be seen and felt by billions around the globe.” Next Sunday’s episode, airing at 8 p.m., is entitled “Homeland” and will include Joshua conquering Jericho, Samuel anointing David king and Delilah betraying Samson “as the Israelites battle the Philistines,” according to a History release.
