Man critical after Long Island City crash

A man is fighting for his life after suffering a heart attack behind the wheel in Long Island City this afternoon, cops said.

The man’s vehicle careened into a light pole near a check point area at the entrance of the Queens Midtown Tunnel just after 5:00 p.m., cops said.

Bridge and tunnel cops Vedya Figuera and Lashaunda Levant-Jones rushed to the stop the vehicle and put it in park. That’s when Bridge and Tunnel cop Ronald Linck administered CPR to the man until EMS arrived, the sources said.

Bridge and tunnel cops were seen diving out of the way to avoid being struck, witnesses said.

The man was rushed to Bellevue Hospital.

He is listed in critical condition, cops said.

Only one vehicle was involved in the crash and no criminality is suspected.
