Daughter who stole cop dad’s gun sentenced to rehab

The daughter of a veteran state trooper who stole her cop dad’s gun and left it in an abandoned house for her criminal boyfriend to sell was released from jail Wednesday and ordered by a judge to go to rehab for a year.

Keala Augustine, 20, was held on $25,000 bond and ordered to stay away from her father, Brian, after admitting to cops that on July 21 she stole his service weapon and pawned $1000 in his personal property.

The Jay John College student, dodged up to four years in prison when she pleaded guilty to fourth-degree grand larceny and promised to attend an inpatient treatment program at Odyssey House.

Augustine reported a false home invasion to 911 who rushed to her parent’s South Ozone Park home, awaking her half-asleep father, unbeknownst to his missing weapon.

The weapon got into the hands of Augustine’s boyfriend, Shamel Bryant, 24, who has prior arrests for felony robbery, drugs and reckless endangerment.

The limited order of protection also remains in effect.
