Obama, Kerry: fools Russian in

President Obama sure knows how to choose a secretary of state (“Kerry’s Killer Gaffes,” Rich Lowry, PostOpinion, Sept. 9).

First he gave us Hillary Clinton. She’s the one who asked the question: “It’s 3 a.m. . . . Who do you want answering the phone?”

She’s the one who asked the committee investigating Benghazi: “What difference does it make?” She failed on the first question; and she refused to accept that her inaction may have caused the deaths of an ambassador and fellow Americans.

Now we have John Kerry. This is the man who condemned his fellow servicemen in front of a Senate committee, calling them rapists and murderers. The same man who sticks his foot in his mouth every time he speaks. Obama sure knows how to pick them.

Kerry’s characterization of the administration’s “unbelievably small” planned strike on Syria follows the White House’s reported description of it being just “muscular enough not to be mocked.”

Obama’s best, politically face-saving hopes are formulated by a gaffe that puts President Putin in the driver’s seat and preserves the Assad regime. One can be against the military strike and still be embarrassed by the administration’s incoherent performance.
