Showtime renews ‘Homeland,’ ‘Masters of Sex’

Get ready for more “Homeland” — Showtime has renewed the CIA thriller for a fourth season of 12 episodes to air in 2014.

The drama starring Claire Danes and Damian Lewis is averaging 6.5 million viewers four episodes into its third season, up 26 percent from the same point last year. “Homeland” won the Emmy for best drama in 2012, though fans and critics have been divided over its current season, which last Sunday featured a major plot twist.

The network has also picked up a second season of “Masters of Sex,” the 1950s period drama starring Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan as the pioneering sex researchers William Masters and Virginia Johnson. The drama has averaged 5.4 million viewers after “Homeland” on Sundays, 33 percent more viewers than that show’s first season.
