Icy roads of death: One dead, 7 hurt in city crashes

At least one person was killed and seven injured last night after the city’s highways and roads were hit by a blast of snow and ice, officials said.

A 27-year-old man died at about 7:15 p.m. when he lost control of his vehicle in the Cambria Heights section of Queens and spun into a tree, police sources said.

He was driving eastbound on Francis Lewis Boulevard in a 2007 Nissan Murano.

The accident is believed to be weather related, and no criminality is suspected, police sources said.

Seven people were injured in a three-car pileup on the 145th Street bridge by the Harlem River Drive in The Bronx at around 6:40 p.m., fire officials said.

Three of the victims were rushed to Harlem Hospital and three others were sent to Lincoln Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. One person declined medical attention.

The state Department of Transportation reported that heavy ice and snow made driving treacherous on roads around the region last night.
