Hofstra fires Cassara after slew of arrests

Hofstra relieved head coach Mo Cassara of his duties yesterday, a move made after six players were arrested over the course of the season.

Assistant coach Patrick Sellers was elevated to interim head coach and the remainder of the staff was retained, athletic director Jeff Hathaway said.

“They informed me last night they wanted to make a change,” Cassara who was 38-59 in three seasons and has three years left on his contract, told The Post. “Obviously, I felt we were headed in a positive direction and I was excited about the future, really, really optimistic about the character talent of our incoming recruiting class.”

“For me, it was the right move,” Hathaway said.“Most important for Hofstra, most importantly for our program and I felt it was the most appropriate one for me as well.” Four players — starters Jimmy Hall and Shaquille Stokes and reserves Dallas Anglin and Kentrell Washington — were arrested and charged with burglary after allegedly stealing over $10,000 worth of Apple products from fellow students seven games into the season. Jamal Coombs-McDaniel was recently arrested on drug charges and Cassara said Taran Buie was arrested for a traffic violation.

Despite the circus-like atmosphere, Cassara and his staff landed a seven-man recruiting class, which was sliced to six on Wednesday when Brooklyn wing Richard Williams de-committed.
