Report: Giants free agent Osi and Falcons talking

Osi Umenyiora could be heading south.

The Giants’ free-agent defensive end is being courted heavily by the Falcons, and the two sides are trying to get a deal finalized before the end of the weekend, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Twitter.

Umenyiora, who has been with the Giants for 10 years, was in Atlanta for a visit Wednesday and underwent a physical Thursday. The 31-year-old is not expected to return to New York with Justin Tuck and Jason Pierre-Paul anchoring the defensive line. The Falcons cut John Abraham this offseason and are looking for a replacement for the former Jets defensive end.

Umenyiora had 43 tackles and six sacks this past season. He had 11 1/2 sacks and 10 forced fumbles in 2010, but has not returned to that same form.
