Andy Pettitte is retiring. By now, Alex Rodriguez knows that about his Yankees teammate. He did not seem so clued in when asked for comment Friday by several reporters about Pettitte — during Pettitte’s press conference at Yankee Stadium.
“Tell me what happened,” Rodriguez said.
After an explanation, Rodriguez replied, “What do you want me to say?”
Rodriguez then gave a nice testimonial, heaping high praise on his teammate.
“Andy is just an amazing human being. He’s been an icon on the field and a world-class friend and teammate and leader off the field — in here in the clubhouse,” Rodriguez said, calling Pettitte “just one of the all-time greatest winners.”
