London galling: Leftist foes celebrate Thatcher’s death

Former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher’s death set off a wave of morbid jubilation from the left yesterday as critics of her 15-year reign held “Thatcher Death Parties” and bashed her through social media.

From union representatives to pop star Morrissey, Thatcher haters unleashed a shocking torrent of disdain for the 87-year-old politico’s policies and openly lauded her passing.

Shouting, “Maggie, Maggie, Maggie, Dead, Dead, Dead,” crowds in several British and Scottish cities poured into the streets to chug champagne and celebrate her demise.

One group carried a large sign reading “The Bitch is Dead” through a London square during one rally.

Social media exploded with anti-Thatcher sentiment as soon as her death was made public.

Scottish Parliamentarian and longtime Thatcher critic George Galloway unloaded on his former nemesis, tweeting: “Tramp the dirt down,” a reference to an old anti-Thatcher song by Elvis Costello.

“Thatcher described Nelson Mandela as a ‘terrorist,’ ” Galloway later posted. “I was there. I saw her lips move. May she burn in the hellfires.”

Singer Morrissey released an open letter calling Thatcher “barbaric” and “without an atom of humanity.”

The heat from left-leaning celebrities was so intense that former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell was compelled to remove a Twitter post that paid tribute to Thatcher after she was pelted with abuse. She later apologized for offending them.

Union representatives joined the chorus of derision.

“We’ve been waiting for a long time to hear the news of Baroness Thatcher’s demise and I can’t say I’m sorry,” crowed miner union representative Chris-Kitchen. “I will not be shedding a tear for her.”

Thousands took to social media sites to lobby against a publicly funded funeral for Thatcher. She will be given a ceremonial funeral and costs will be split between the British government and her estate.

Some British newspapers opted to shut down their comments sections after streams of anti-Thatcher abuse poured in.

Startled by the virulent attacks on Thatcher, supporters blasted her critics.

Businessman Lord Sugar wrote, “Some of the despicable scum tweeting foul mouth comments on my Baroness Thatcher were still drinking milk from a t–t in the 80s.”
