Former Giants teammates ‘sad’ about Plax prison term

ALBANY — Plaxico Burress’ former teammates expressed sadness today after hearing that the wide-receiver accepted a plea dreal that will keep him behind bars for two years.

“It’s just sad,” said Giants quarterback Eli Manning. “I feel bad for how this worked out and the circumsances that he’s been put through, and his family. No one wanted this or wanted this to happen. It’s just a shame that it did.”

Defensive end Justin Tuck said Plax, who caught the winning touchdown to win the 2008 Super Bowl, called Burress “one of the raesons I can say I’m a Super Bowl champion.”

“I hope everyting works out for him and when he comes out it will be an opportunity to get back out on the football field,” he added.

Antonio Pierce, the Giants lineback who was with Burress when the gun accidentially fired, was not made available for comment.

Giants co-owner John Mara called Burress a “great player.”

“He made some poor judgments and now unfortunately he’s got to pay for it,” he said.
