Elin wants to avoid divorce: report

Tiger wins again.

Despite the golf legend’s growing list of jiggly jump-offs, Tiger Woods’ scorned wife Elin Nordegren reportedly plans to stay with him.

According to People magazine, Nordegren plans to stand by her man for the sake of the children.

“She’s a child of divorce and that’s not something she’s likely going to want to do” to their two young children, a friend told the magazine. “She really believes in the importance of parents staying together.” Woods and Nordegren, who married in 2004 have two children — Sam, 2, and Charlie, 10 months.

Not since his dramatic US Open win in 19 holes last year on a bum knee has Woods pulled off a more improbable triumph. The end of his marriage seemed almost certain when reports surfaced that Woods fled their Florida mansion the day after Thanksgiving to escape his wife’s wrath.

Tiger was hospitalized when he rammed his Cadillac Escalade into a tree and a fire hydrant.

“She is devastated by the extent of Tiger’s cheating, but she did not collapse on the bed like a vegetable,” a source close to Nordegren told the magazine.

After tales of more mistresses surfaced, Nordegren reportedly closed a deal to buy a $2.3 million estate on a Swedish island. She was also reportedly in talks with Tiger to renegotiate their prenuptial agreement.

“Don’t let the pretty blond thing fool you,” another friend said. “She is tough. She doesn’t take anything lying down. She’s a fighter, and I am sure she’s fighting like hell right now, to keep her family intact but also to make sure Tiger will always be haunted by this.”

Nordegren’s parents divorced when Nordegren and her identical twin sister, Josefin, were just 6 years old.

Nordegren was not exactly blind-sided by the revelations. According to the magazine, she was concerned enough about Tiger’s wild side to confront him before they got married.

“Elin had talked to other golfers and their wives about Tiger’s wild parties,” according to a friend. “When she asked Tiger about it, he said he would stop doing it. And she believed him. But he never did.”

Friends also insist that the public is not learning anything that Nordegren does not already know.

“Tiger has told Elin everything,” a source close to the family told People. “Nothing that’s coming out now is a surprise. She knows what he has done, and they’ve had some long talks about it. They are getting everything out in the open.”

They also said the scandal has turned the ferocious Tiger into a scaredy cat.

“Tiger thought he was untouchable,” a friend told the mag. But now, “he’s feeling real low. His charisma is shot and he’s embarrassed.”

As for why the lotharios golf legend got married in the first place, one observer had an answer.

“He wanted kids,” said golf writer Alan Shipnuck. “And he had married friends who had kids, and I think that’s why he did it.”

A person close to the family insists Tiger is sincerely sorry.

“He’s not perfect we all know that now,” the insider told People. “But he’s a good father, and he wants to be a good husband, too.”
