Brooklyn man sentenced to 20 years in NJ shooting

SOMERVILLE, N.J. — A New Jersey judge has sentenced a Brooklyn man to 20 years in prison for a fatal shooting outside a wedding reception.

Hai Kim “Vincent” Nguyen pleaded guilty in September to aggravated manslaughter and attempted murder in the death of 20-year-old Tuan Thieu of Bloomfield.

The shooting took place outside the Dynasty restaurant in Green Brook in March 2002.

Authorities say the attack followed an argument involving Thieu’s girlfriend.

Nguyen fled to Brooklyn and was arrested after a standoff with police. He pleaded guilty in 2003 to charges there and has been serving a prison term for those offenses.

At sentencing Friday in Somerville, Nguyen, now 33 years old, was ordered to serve 17 years before being eligible for parole.
