‘The Bridge’ returning for second season

The immigration-themed murder mystery “The Bridge” will be back for a second season next summer, FX announced. An American adaptation of a Danish/Swedish show called “Bron,” the series stars Diane Kruger and Demian Bichir as two detectives, one American, the other Mexican who come together to investigate an unusual murder on the bridge that connects El Paso, Texas with Juarez in Chichuahua, Mexico.

A subplot involved the illegal smuggling of immigrants and guns onto to the ranch of a rich widow played by Annabeth Gish.

“We’ve been blown away by the compelling performances of Demian Bichir and Diane Kruger and the writing of Meredith Stiehm, Elwood Reid and their team, and are thrilled to be able to continue this journey for another season,” said Eric Schrier, President of Original Programming for FX Networks and FX Productions in a statement.

The season finale, which airs Oct. 2, caps off the series’ successful run, the No. 1 new scripted cable series of the summer.

“The Bridge” is produced by Shine America. The series also has a UK-French version called “The Tunnel,” which bows this fall overseas. In that series, the corpse is found in the Chunnel, on the border between England and France.
